Everything Is Everything (Songs Inspired by Lauryn Hill)

Everything Is Everything
By Amir W.
When I think about the world it’s a wonderful place, but when I’m sad I need space. When special days come around I always here joyful sounds, but there are many kids to play with at the playground when life will show more things will grow. All people will show other people respect and people in the future will know what will come next.

By Tahmair Lewis

AVA's Song about a Princess

SHE HAS GOLD HAIR
AND THEN SHE DYED IT BLACK
SHE HAS BLACK EYES
AND SHE WEARS A GOLDEN DRESS
SHE LIKES TO PLAY AT HER OWN HOUSE
AND SHE ALSO LIKES TO PLAY AT HER FRIEND’S HOUSE
SHE ALSO LIKES TO DRAW
SHE LIKES TO DRAW PICTURES OF PIGS, HORSES, TREES, AND PEOPLE
SHE LIKES TO SING
SHE LIKES TO SING ABOUT HERSELF
SHE LIKES TO EAT ASPARAGUS AND CARROTS
BUT SHE DOES NOT LIKE TO EXERCISE

Alana's Song About Her Friend Lillian

I’m going to Lillian’s house today
She likes to play
We have fun now
She loves dogs
I love dogs too
We play now
It’s time for me to go
I’ll see you tomorrow
At school Lillian
I’ll see you too Alana
We play at school

Lyfe… Not

The sun goes down
The stars comes out
And all I count
Was Then But Now
I’m beautiful
And I’ll always be the same
I’ll Be There To…

You’ll be the life of me, life for me
Someone that has the eyes to see, Eyes to see
And I decided you are too well for me,
well for me
So let’s do something amazing just to be
You and me

Turn the lights on now
Now we’ll finally be amazed
For the people to be great
Be great if you can
I don’t know what to say!
Say “My life is actually great.”
Well It’s actually really great
But I’ll stay with you and I can make,
Make you glad I came

The sun goes down
The stars comes out
And all I count
Was then but now
I’m beautiful
And I’ll Always Be The Same
I’ll be there too
I’ll be there too

You’ll be the life of me, life for me
Someone that has the eyes to see, Eyes to see
And I decided you are too well for me,
well for me
So let’s do something amazing just to be
You and me
Turn the lights on now
Now we’ll finally be amazed
For the people to be great
Be great if you can
I don’t know what to say!
Say “My life is actually great.”
Well It’s actually really great
But I’ll stay with you and I can make,
Make you glad I came

The sun goes down…
The stars come out…
But all I count…
Was then but now
I’m Beautiful
And I’ll always be the same…
I’ll Be There To…

Everything Is Everything
(After Lauryn Hill)
When I’m getting tired
of feeling scared and trying to pull off tiny acts of courage
I remember the ones, on bridges, in intersections
counting jelly beans to vote, getting locked away,
getting gone so we could be together
coming out and losing everything, and gaining love.
striking and losing everything, and gaining weekends
marching and gaining suffrage, but not for everyone
(Someday for everyone.)

When I’m getting tired
and I lose sight of my heart and can’t feel the light
I think of wonderful angry ladies chanting at Trump tower
of young Philadelphians shutting down intersections
and marching with all kinds of signs
and their/our beautiful defiant faces
and what it’s like to dance in America
on a Sunday afternoon, with everyone.
(More dancing with everyone.)

When I’m getting tired
and frustrated with threats and triggers and shivers,
I think of volunteer ladies making calls
and bonding with strangers on the phone|
about subjects that used to be taboo.
I think of turning to my neighbor on a rousing day
saying “That was a big moment.”
and her saying “Yeah, a big moment.”
And chanting “Yes we can” with everyone,
(And yes, we can, with everyone.)
